Thanks to my 3-year-old, I have become a fruit snack aficionado. For awhile there, he would run around the house at snack time yelling, "Woot that. Woot that!" (his pronunciation for "Fruit snack. Fruit snack!") I confess, I may have egged that on just a little. But as his verbal skills improve, so have my selection of those potentially artificial, preservative filled snacks.
Of course, I know nothing beats real fruit. And he gets plenty of that. (Blueberries are his current favorite.) But for the occasional treat or an easy grab-and-go snack, fruit snacks have come in handy.
At first I a hard time seeing his love for them. To me, they are mostly tasteless chewy bites. But recently, I've found some I like just as much as he does. And even better, they are naturally flavored - that means no Red No. 40 or other dyes that are believed to contribute to hyperactivity. (No need to add to the natural hyperness of my boy, thank you very much.)
My favorite this Friday is a box of Ocean Spray Fruit snacks. Full of juicy flavor and lacking that artificial stuff that I'm trying more and more to avoid.
I've tried the Berries and Cherries flavor along with the Assorted Fruit and they are both good! That's what I'm digging today! Now I feel like I should go eat a banana to get some real fruit in my system...
